Our mission

We believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, trauma-informed mental health support — and technology can help make that a reality.

The Eileen story

Eileen began as a project within the AI for Social Change (AIFSC) initiative — a collaborative effort to use technology for meaningful social impact. We saw that many people dealing with mental health challenges, trauma recovery, or everyday wellbeing struggles lacked access to simple, supportive tools that fit naturally into their daily lives.

Traditional mental health apps often feel clinical, overwhelming, or disconnected from the lived experiences of the people they're meant to serve. We wanted to create something different — something that feels like a trusted companion, not a medical device.

Named after a figure of care and compassion, Eileen is built on the principles of trauma-informed design: safety, trustworthiness, peer support, collaboration, and empowerment. Every feature, every interaction, and every design choice is made with these principles in mind.

Trauma-informed design

Our approach puts safety and wellbeing at the centre of everything we build

Safety

Creating an environment where users feel physically and emotionally safe. Calm colours, gentle interactions, no sudden changes.

Trustworthiness

Transparent about what we do with data, consistent in our interactions, and clear in our communication.

Peer support

Building connections and community. Users are never alone — support is always available.

Collaboration

Users have a voice in how the app works. We co-design features with the communities we serve.

Empowerment

Helping users build skills and confidence. Eileen supports — it never takes over.

Cultural sensitivity

Respecting diverse backgrounds, languages, and experiences. Inclusivity is built in, not bolted on.
